Examination of his bank accounts revealed that he had wasted thousands on online gambling, cocaine and a champagne lifestyle.

In a victim impact statement, Stuart King, COO of Tangerine Holdings, owner of AFC Fylde, said the club were only able to stay afloat because they were part of a larger group. important and could borrow money to plug the hole in the accounts. .

He said: “The future of those employed by the company would undoubtedly have been dramatically affected, with AFC Fylde potentially going into liquidation and all of these employees would have been left out of work had they not been able to borrow money. money. “

Barnbrook pleaded guilty to theft through abuse of position and was jailed for 32 months.

Speaking after making his case, AFC Fylde president David Haythornthwaite said he had been building the club since the 1990s.

He said: “This case exposed the flaws in our systems that allowed Mr Barnbrook to take so much money without being challenged.

“It was a great wake-up call for us and unfortunately there were internal casualties as a result of his actions.

“The sad thing is that the only person who has benefited from all of this is a call girl from Manchester and someone we have absolutely no legal right to get the money from.”

A proceeds of crime hearing will be held in due course.
