“India is proud of @NSaina for their outstanding contributions to making India a sporting power. She is an unwavering patriot in addition to being an Olympic medalist. Making a cheap comment on such an iconic figure portrays a person’s dastardly mentality, ”Rijiju explained on Twitter.
Siddharth, who has worked in films in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi, finds himself in the eye of the storm for his response to Nehwal’s condemnation of the security breach of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Punjab last week. Responding to his tweet, he posted: “A subtle rooster world champion… thank goodness we have protectors from India.”
After the tweet on Monday received widespread attention and condemnation on social media, it posted a clarification, tweeting, “COCK and BULL. This is the benchmark. Reading otherwise is unfair and catchy! Nothing disrespectful was intended, said or implied. Period.”
Both Saina and her husband, Parupalli Kashyap, also a renowned badminton player, reacted to the comment of the actor of “Rang De Basanti”. Responding separately, the couple said the actor could have chosen to speak in “better words.”
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has also taken notice of this post. Woman’s body wrote to Twitter India, demanding that Siddharth’s Twitter account be managed blocked. The head of the corps, Rekha Sharma, wrote to the Tamil Nadu police, calling for “swift and strict” action in the matter.
